Youthact! Project in

Eltham Green School

Students at Eltham Green School are using drama to communicate crime and safety messages to young people in their community.

Project started: Nov 2007

Year 8 students at Eltham Green School feel that there are a number of key issues that most affect them and their community. Crime, the lack of buses and transport in the area, teenage pregnancy, violence within gangs and feeling unsafe are top on their list of issues that affect the lives, particularly of young people in Eltham.

Whilst training with Youth Act, the group have decided their specific campaign will be to raise awareness of crime and safety in the community. They plan to do this through drama: communicating key messages about crime and safety to other young people through comedy and drama-based role plays addressing crime and safety issues which they will present to different classes at the school.

The group started training with Youth Act in Autumn 2007. Watch this space as their campaign develops!

Youth Act training and campaigns are running throughout London. A national Youth Act Train the Trainers programme is also available. Please contact the Youth Act team for more information 020 7566 5033 or email Ade Sofola (

This project is based on the internationally successful Youth Act! programme of street law begun by Street Law Inc in the United States (, which has campaigned to increase provision for homeless people, challenge discrimination and reduce gun crime.
