Bang Edutainment

Bang Edutainment is a youth music project based in Brent. The group are working on a campaign to improve young people's accessibility to facilities for young people in Brent.

Project started: May 2007

"Our project is for the young people of Brent. We are doing our project to take young people off the streets and encourage then to do things that they enjoy and that are more positive and help to build them into better members of Brent!"

When the Bang Edutainment campaign group started training with Youth Act they were concerned that there were not enough things for young people to do in Brent.

Following research with young people into the facilities and services available to in the borough, the group now plan to work closely with youth services to market existing services, leisure and other opportunities to young people living in the area and to address the issues and needs of young people in the area about using the facilities available.

To support their campaign, the group are organising a music event for young people in October inviting talented performers in Brent and different arts, leisure and youth-oriented groups to provide information and recruit young people through presentations and stands.

Youth Act training and campaigns are running throughout London. A national Youth Act Train the Trainers programme is also available. Please contact the Youth Act team for more information 020 7566 5033 or email Ade Sofola (ade.sofola@citizenshipfoundation.org.uk).

This project is based on the internationally successful Youth Act! programme of street law begun by Street Law Inc in the United States (www.streetlaw.org), which has campaigned to increase provision for homeless people, challenge discrimination and reduce gun crime. www.youthact.org
