YMCA -Young Members Committed to Addington

Concerned with the image of young people in the area and the lack of access to facilities for young people, the group are working with their local youth centre and council to find out the needs of young people in the area and make sure they are met.

Project started: Feb 2006

The Young Members Committed to Addington (also known as the YMCA!)are a select group who are also members of a local youth centre.

They plan to bring the knowledge and skills they have learnt through Youth Act to a larger group at their youth centre.

Together they are campaigning for improved facilities and provision for young people in New Addington.

To do so they have:

*designed a questionnaire to be handed out to young people to find out their needs and what they want in the area

*organised a meeting with the local youth officer to discuss budgets, consultation with young people and the needs of young people in New Addington

*initiated contact with the local mayor to gain support for the campaign

*contact local newspapers and radio stations with updates on their campaign.
