Southside Movers - Lambeth College

The group's campaign is dedicated to improving communication between young people and the police and developing awareness amongst young people about their rights regarding police arrest.

Project started: Dec 2005

Since training in October 2005, students at Lambeth College:

*Set up a campaigns team sharing tasks and responsibilities

*Organised a show case event and presentation to the rest of the college to highlight the issue of stop and search by the police of young people in London

*Developed fundraising plans to support their campaign

*Created publicity materials including flyers and t-shirt designs

*Are designing a poster and photo display to put up on their college noticeboard

*Have started to gather contacts within the local police

*Have plans to create an information booklet with advice, information about right and appropriate contacts and sources of support and advice for young people in Lambeth.

*Have plans to develop a website

This project is based on the internationally successful Youth Act! programme of street law begun by Street Law Inc in the United States (, which has campaigned to increase provision for homeless people, challenge discrimination and reduce gun crime.
