Citizenship Challenge is designed to support the teaching of citizenship education at key stages 3 and 4 in Pupil Referral Units, although it will also be found useful in mainstream and other forms of education.

Its aim is to help students to think about, discuss and find out more about what it is to be a citizen today. It does this by encouraging them to connect with society and feel that they are citizens in their own right, with rights and responsibilities and the ability to make a difference both to their own lives and to the lives of others.

The materials contain guidance for formal level assessment at key stage 3.

Citizenship Challenge is accredited under AQA's Unit Award Scheme (UAS), which records achievement and gives a student recognition for completing short units of work. There are over 18,000 units in the scheme and as long as the student's achievement is a valid and worthwhile learning experience, almost any activity can be recognised. For Citizenship Challenge, there are eight Unit Awards, which can be downloaded from the AQA website and are available in the download from this page. For more information about the UAS, please go to http://web.aqa.org.uk/qual/uas.php.

You may need to update your version of Adobe Reader - you need at least Adobe 9 to access this resource. You should also 'save as' because this is a large document. Please see the guidance above. If you have further problems, contact us directly.
