Judge Rinder won't hinder legal eaglets
Flamboyant barrister Robert Rinder - aka ITV's 'Judge Rinder' - will flick his sharp tongue at young legal eagles when he presents prizes at the Bar National Mock Trial final in Edinburgh next month. But we know even that won't quell their enthusiasm for public legal education.
Around 270 young people from 18 schools across the UK have won regional heats to get to this point. To clinch the coveted title of 'winner', they must prosecute and defend cases on suspected theft and drug possession.
These youngsters are from all backgrounds. For many, this competition is their first, positive contact with the legal system that governs their lives. Public legal education such as this is a vital component in their development as effective citizens in the society they will shape.
Robert Rinder (pictured) joins other eminent legal professionals giving up their time to endorse the value of understanding how the law impacts young lives.
The Hon Lady Rae and the Rt Hon Lord Justice Davis are among those presiding over the mock trial cases. If the young people can hold their own through that - and we know they can - they can handle anything Judge Rinder may say to them!
