Bar National Mock Trial Competition
Now in its ninth year the Bar National Mock Trial Competition annually sees the involvement of over 2000 students, 200 barristers and 90 judges from across the UK.Competition Organiser Piya Muqit of the Citizenship Foundation said: 'The competition gives the opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience of the workings of the law. It is a hugely valuable occasion brought to life through the assistance of barristers and judges in the preparations for the heats and on the day in court.' The competition is launched with a series of national regional heats to be held on Saturday 13 November in Chester, Cardiff, Chelmsford, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Leeds, Plymouth and Maidstone. Remaining regional heats will be on Saturday 20 November in Bristol, Belfast, Oxford, Nottingham, Newcastle, Manchester, Liverpool and London. The winners of each heat will be invited to the Competition Final which will take place on Saturday 18 March 2000 at Southwark Crown Court, London. Commenting, the General Council of the Bar Chairman, Dan Brennan QC, said: 'I am always hugely impressed with the quality of entry to the Bar National Mock Trial Competition and proud that so many barristers give up their time to add to the knowledge of the legal profession among young people.
