‘I am keen to strengthen the educational programmes,' says David, 'And ensure that the Foundation continues to be at the cutting edge of developments in practice and policy. In a rapidly changing world the need for high quality citizenship education, both in and beyond the UK, is greater than ever.'

David started his career as a history teacher and was later a university lecturer in education.

Prior to joining us David worked as a senior research officer and then Research Director at the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER). He was seconded as Professional Officer to the Citizenship Advisory Group (the 'Crick Group') and then as citizenship consultant to the DfES (now Department for Education (DfE)).

David was Research Director of the groundbreaking Citizenship Education Longitudinal Study (CELS) and is Co-Director of the IEA's International Civic and Citizenship Education Study (ICCS), which involves 38 countries worldwide.

David was on our board of trustees for a number of years. He is currently the UK representative for the Council of Europe's Education for Democratic Citizenship and Human Rights Education Project (EDC/HRE).
