'Citizenship Challenge' materials launched

We are pleased to announce the launch of a new set of resources 'Citizenship Challenge' designed specifically for use in pupil referral units and other alternative settings.

'Citizenship Challenge' was first developed in 2006, but following a grant from the Wates Foundation a full evaluation and redevelopment of the materials was completed, with input from teachers and youth workers from pupil referral units and other alternative settings across England.

The materials are free to download, and include eight units:

  • Being a Citizen;
  • Society & the Media;
  • Politics & Power;
  • Family & Home Life;
  • Crime & the Law;
  • Neighbourhood & Environment;
  • Shopping & Money;
  • Identity & Discrimination.

In addition, we will be offering guidance on assessment for key stage 3 and AQA Unit Awards for each unit, which will be available very soon.

The materials are designed for use with students aged 11-16.
