New one-stop shop for government services

A new government service aims to make it much easier to find and access government information and services.

The service, Directgov, was designed with collaboration from users and hopes to become the first port of call for electronic access to government.

Launched today, Directgov claims at last to bring together information from across many Whitehall departments in one place, eliminating the need to search across several departmental sites. ‘This is a major step forward in joining-up online government services,’ says Andrew Pinder, the government’s e-Envoy.

Douglas Alexander, Minister for the Cabinet Office, is enthusiastic about the new service: ‘We have made great strides in putting government services and information online …. Over time this new service aims to become the first destination for people accessing government electronically.‘
