Magistrates' Court Mock Trial Competition 2010-11 applications now open!

Applications are now open for entries to this year’s Magistrates’ Court Mock Trial Competition, an active learning project organised by the Citizenship Foundation. The competition introduces the legal system to young people aged 12-14 in an innovative and exciting way. Last year over 350 schools registered to take part in more than 70 local heats across the country.

The project involves students taking on the roles of lawyers, witnesses, magistrates and court staff as they take part in specially written criminal cases. Held in local magistrates’ courts and judged by magistrates and other legal professionals from the area, the competition takes place locally, with winning schools progressing to regional and national levels.

For information on how to enter or visit the competition’s website for more details: www.citizenshipfoundation.org.uk/mcmt. The deadline for registration is 22 October 2010.
