Citizenship Foundation announces new Chief Executive
The Citizenship Foundation is happy to announce that Andy Thornton has been appointed as its new Chief Executive with effect from 1 September 2010. He is currently the Foundation’s Director for Programmes and Innovation and has played a leading role in the development of the Foundation’s participation and social action programmes.Andy Thornton said, ‘The Citizenship Foundation has been a great force for change over the last 20 years. Our vision for a fair and inclusive society is as vital as ever. I'm delighted to have the opportunity to lead the Foundation into an exciting new era: one in which the contribution of ordinary citizens is valued by all political leaders. Our purpose and commitment is to support that contribution and I can't wait to play my part in it.'
Andy Thornton came to the Citizenship Foundation in 2004 after three years at the Giving Campaign where he founded the Giving Nation programme for secondary schools, now firmly established as one of the Foundation's keynote projects. Prior to that, he was the Manager of the Greenbelt Festival, a Youth Health Promotion Officer in Glasgow, a Community Worker and a full time rock musician.
