Giving Nation Social Action Awards 2010: Top Prize Unveiled

Giving Nation is delighted to unveil this year's Award partner as Concern Universal. The Giving Nation Award winning school will win a trip to visit The Gambia and experience the work of Concern Universal. Concern Universal works in partnership with local organisations to help people in some of the world's poorest communities to improve their quality of life; with improved health, skills, food, security and respect for rights.

Giving Nation celebrates secondary social action through our annual Awards. Schools across the UK with the most outstanding commitment to charitable action and volunteering will be invited to our annual ceremony to be held at HM Treasury on October 28th 2010, where school prizes will be awarded based on the detail in their Giving Nation Award and Giving Nation Challenge diaries.

What do you need to do?

Get your School Council/Charity Committee representatives to record all the great stuff that your school already does in the name of charity throughout the school year - this might be campaigning, peer initiatives, fundraising or volunteering. Students input all their actions and activities into your school's Giving Nation Award Diary. The closing date for diary entries is Monday 19th July. If you wish to document your activities from this academic year contact us to receive your unique school log in details. Contact details at the bottom of the page.

What are the judges looking for?

The judges of the Awards diaries are looking for evidence of whole school involvement and
• Evidence of how pupils researched planned and organised the school charity year
• Evidence of discussion and consultation within school
• Evidence of active and meaningful participation by pupils in charity activities
• Evidence of how pupils raised awareness of charity issues both within and outside school
• Ideas on how the pupils will develop their work for charity and community in the coming year
