Youth Act! Train the Trainers now available

Youth Act!™, the Citizenship Foundation’s award winning project focusing on active political literacy is now available as a train the trainers package. Suitable for people working with young people in any education, youth or community setting, the training package will provide adults with the skills and resources to deliver the Youth Act! programme anywhere in the UK. To get involved, partners such as youth services, local authorities, community cohesion initiatives and New Deal for Communities, amongst others are being invited to invest in this training package for groups of up to 12 adults in their local areas.

Youth Act supports groups of young people, working with adults, who want to achieve political or social change in their school, youth club or community. It offers training in the skills of problem solving, team building and cooperation, influencing decision makers, communication, fundraising and campaigning.

The train the trainers package is for up to 12 adults to run the Youth Act programme and includes a taster session, two full days training and a post training evaluation session. It also covers full support from Youth Act! trainers at the Citizenship Foundation and our new 150 page, fully accessible Youth Act! training manual. The manual is a tool kit split into sections on Youth Act! workshop ideas, training sessions, learning approaches and case studies. It contains fully photocopiable resources for the trainers to use once they have completed in their training.

Andy Hamflett, Chief Executive of the UK Youth Parliament has praised the work of the programme, saying: ‘Youth Act! is a fantastic package. Youth involvement and participation has risen steadily up the agenda in recent years, but delivery is not always consistent. Youth workers in some areas are crying out for guidance on how to move beyond establishing principles and structures to supporting the young people they work with to bring about real change in their communities. Youth Act is a great tool for exactly that, and I hope it spreads far and wide’.

The London pilot of Youth Act! includes groups of young people concerned about gun and knife crime, mobile phone theft, community cohesion, bullying, anti-social behaviour, teen pregnancy, improving their housing estates, relations with the police and lack of youth provision. Youth Act is also running in Stoke-on-Trent, Croydon, High Peak/Derbyshire and Coventry, with Salford and Stockton-on-Tees starting soon. We are now looking for new areas to run the project.

™ Youth Act is a US Program of Street Law, Inc.
