Register now for distance learning CPD Certificate in Citizenship
The Citizenship Foundation has joined forces with Birkbeck, University of London and ACT to offer a Distance Learning DfES Certificate course allowing teachers to study in their own time, anywhere in the country.Now open for applications, the course is designed for teachers in primary, secondary or post-16 wanting to develop their professional skills in citizenship. The course will run from January to June 2007 and will be available either by distance learning or via a face-to-face course delivered in Central London at Birkbeck College.
Successful candidates will achieve the DfES Certificate in Citizenship Teaching and 30 Masters level CATS points which could count towards a Masters degree in citizenship education.
The course costs £100 for practising teachers (subsidised by the DfES) £600 for anyone else.
Course leaders will be Don Rowe, of the Citizenship Foundation and Chris Waller of ACT. Staff from Birkbeck College will be part of the course team.
Teachers will be able to work their own way through the course and will be supported by a personal tutor throughout. Groups of teachers will be encouraged to meet locally to provide support for each other if they wish.
