Local Democracy Week challenges voting age

'Local Democracy Week,' says its website, 'provides fresh opportunities to involve a wide range of local people in the decisions that effect them.'

This year's theme of 'Listening to Tomorrow's Voter's Today' will focus in particular on the key issues of voting age reform, e-voting and its arguable power to reduce voter apathy, and mechanisms for encouraging young people to be more involved in local democracy. The scheme is organised by the Local Government Association LGA. It encourages councils to work with young people to build a better understanding of democracy and the relevance of local services and decision-making. Local Democracy Week takes place from 13-19 October 2003 and comprises events that are taking place across the country. Share
