New CPD Certificate for the Teaching of Citizenship

The CITIZENSHIP FOUNDATION and ACT are pleased to announce they are teaming up with BIRKBECK COLLEGE, University of London to provide a Distance Learning Version of the DfES Certificate.

This course, which will run from January to June 2007 will allow teachers to study at a time and place of their choosing. You will be able to work your own way through the course, supported by a personal tutor throughout. We will also be encouraging groups of teachers to meet locally to provide support for each other if they wish. A face-to-face version of the course will be run at Birkbeck College during the Spring term.

The course will cost 100 only to citizenship teachers, attracting a subsidy of 500 from the DfES for candidates enrolling this year or next. The course will be open to primary and post-16 teachers/tutors as well as secondary.

Course leaders will be Don Rowe, of the Citizenship Foundation and Chris Waller of ACT. Staff from Birkbeck College will be part of the course team. The course will qualify you for the professional certificate from DfES and 30 masters level CATS points from Birkbeck College, London which can lead to a Postgraduate Certificate and MA in Education for Democratic Citizenship.
