Citizenship Manifestos project launched

The citizenship manifestos project was officially launched at the beginning of March 2006 when teachers from the participating core schools met in London to discuss the project and plan their ideas for getting started.

The day consisted of a range of workshops that included an introduction to the new CPD Handbook for Citizenship, presentations by schools, and an introduction to the evaluation framework for the project, drawn up with support from Charities Evaluation Service.

The overwhelming message from teachers was the importance of citizenship manifestos as a means of bringing together citizenship learning and teaching within a coherent framework. The opportunity to involve a range of stakeholders and focus on student entitlement to citizenship was also highly valued.

12 secondary schools from around the country have joined the project as initial core schools. In addition, several schools have expressed an interest in taking part in the project as satellite schools.
