Street Law's 'Youth Act' trainers visit the UK

To mark the launch of Street Law in the UK, the Citizenship Foundation recently hosted two of Street Law's Senior Program directors for a week of training and presentations.

Artemus Carter and Deborah Foster ran taster Youth Act! training sessions in Stoke-on-Trent and London. Activities focused on campaigning strategies, advocacy and teamwork, around issues including personal safety, bullying, drug abuse and racism. Youth Act! is based on the internationally successful programme of the same name developed by Street Law in the U.S. The programme is designed to foster young people's political engagement through supporting their initiatives for change. Over 40 young people and adults from education, youth and community sectors attended each event and the responses were overwhelmingly positive: 'Excellent', 'Vibrant', 'Fun', 'Informative', 'Relaxed', and 'The young people had so much power and enthusiasm' were just some of the accolades attributed to the events. Youth Act! will be available initially in Haringey and Islington, then rolled out gradually over the next three years.
