Mock trial competition still open to entries

Over 95% of criminals cases are dealt with by magistrates, yet very few people know enough about their vital role. The Magistrates' Court Mock Trial Competition offers young people a hands-on introduction to the legal system and the magistrates' courts, and is still open to entries.

Now in its 12th successful year, the competition gives young people an exciting and innovative opportunity to discover how and why laws are made.

Each year it involves more than 4,000 young people throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland, as well as 800 magistrates and other legal professionals.

The competition is open to all state funded secondary schools in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

The deadline for entries for 2005/06 has been extended to 7 November 2005.
