Magistrates' Court Mock Trial Competition
Local heats recently took place in over 60 Magistrates' Courts across England, Wales and Northern Ireland in the Citizenship Foundation's most popular active learning competition.Teams of 11-14 year olds from 350 schools took on the roles of all those involved in a mock criminal case, from lawyers and magistrates to court staff. The case at local level was about the theft of a fireplace from outside a property. The winning schools will go forward to compete in regional heats in May and June. The competition is an excellent means of introducing young people to the criminal justice system in an interesting and informative way, fulfilling many of the learning outcomes of the Citizenship curriculum.
