New approach to political literacy published

Citizens and Society, a new approach to teaching political literacy from the Citizenship Foundation, has just been published by Hodder Murray.

Featuring detailed, but easy-to-use, photocopiable lesson plans, the book is designed to enable young people to grasp the concepts and beliefs needed to think about and debate political issues.

Each lesson is mapped on to the Citizenship programmes of study for key stages 3 and 4, and on to the requirements of GCSE short courses in Citizenship Studies and A/S Citizenship: Social Studies.

It will also be found useful for A/S Government & Politics and Critical Thinking.

Citizens and Society breaks new ground in developing a conceptual approach to political literacy: one that is still very much in its infancy in the UK.

This title offers excellent support to teachers and is certain to encourage the effective teaching of political literacy in the classroom.
