Home Office launches active citizenship website

The Home Office today launched a website to help get more people involved in shaping their communities.

The new 'Active Citizenship Centre' was launched in Birmingham by Home Office Minister Fiona Mactaggart.

Speaking at a conference organised by the Birmingham Voluntary Services Council, she outlined her vision of the site as a centre for information and a forum for debate on civil renewal:

"The Active Citizenship Centre website will give local groups, especially in the voluntary sector, the information they need to get involved in tackling problems in their own area", she said.

"Strong communities, in which citizens, the voluntary sector and public bodies work together, build security for all and reduce crime.

"That powerful sense of cohesion, equality and mutual respect is at the heart of the Home Office’s Strategic Plan which the Home Secretary has launched today."
