Hansard Society exhibition encourages political engagement

Today sees the start of House to Home: Bringing Parliament and people together, an interactive exhibition from the Hansard Society.

Celebrating the Hansard Society's 60th anniversary, the exhibition examines issues concerning re-engagement of citizens in democratic life.

The organisers say that visitors can engage in a debate on a topical political issue through the medium of interactive TV, follow the case for and against a ban on smoking in public places with contributions from David Hockney, register their vote and see the impact of the decisions they make.

Visitors can also put written questions to the Prime Minster, who will personally answer a selection of them.

House to Home is in Parliament's Westminster Hall until 20th August 2004. Entry is free.
